Eventhough there are several different types of Mallakhamb practiced, only 3 type of apparatus are used for the competitions.

    1.        POLE MALLAKHAMB

     2.        HANGING MALLAKHAMB

     3.        ROPE MALLAKHAMB

Part II    :   DEMONSTRATIVE  MALLAKHAMB

There are many different apparatus on which mainly Individual performance is performed. It can be classified in to two types.

1.    Individual performance on VARIOUS TYPES OF MALLAKHAMB.

2.    Individual Performances with some ADDITIONAL APPARATUS OR DIFFICULTY.

DETAILS

1. POLE Mallakhamb

In this, a vertical wooden pole is eighter fixed in the ground or fixed firmly on a stand. The wood used is usually teakwood or sheeshum, preferred because of its twin characteristics of toughness and smoothness. The pole stands 225 cm above ground level. It has a circumference of 55 cm at its lower end, 45 cm in the middle, and 30 cm at the upper end. The height of the neck is 20 cm, and its circumference is 15 cm, and radius of the upper knobe is 13 cm. Dimentions of Pole varies according to different age groups.

2.   Hanging Mallakhamb

A smaller version of the fixed Mallakhamb, it is suspended with the aid of hooks and chains. The swinging and revolving motion of this type of Mallakhamb renders the exercises quite difficult and exacting. Dimentions are as per diagram.

1.        Individual performances on all the different types of Mallakhamb need special attention to master that particular apparatus. Besides the competitive Pole, Rope & hanging type of Mallakhamb there are following different types of Mallakhamb performed. They include…

a)    STAND Mallakhamb : Here Mallakhamb is fixed on a stand & performed. This Mallakhamb is mainly used for demonstration purpose as it can be transported easily.

b)    Cane Mallakhamb: This is actually a Original type of Mallakhamb, but very difficult to perform. And only very limited number of elements can be achieved. But CANE PERFORMANCE IS SUPERB TO WATCH at the same time HARD TO PERFORM.

c)    Antar Pakad or small hanging Mallakhamb : This is the Mallakhamb similar like Hanging One but is very small in size, about 2 to 3 feet which in turn makes the Performance very very difficult.

d)    Parallel Mallakhamb or "JOD" Mallakhamb : Like Parallel bar, Parallel Mallakhamb is also performed. Here two poles or 2 ropes are kept side by side at about 2 to 3 feet distance & performer performs alternatively on both apparatus, This Parallel Mallakhamb is also used to demonstrate "Synchronised" Mallakhamb.

e)    NIRADHAR Mallakhamb or Mallakhamb without any support : This is the very unique type of apparatus which is usually slanting stands freely on its base, & a performer has to perform it by keeping the Mallakhamb BALANCED along with Performer.

f)    CHAKRI Mallakhamb or Mallakhamb like Mary go Round. : Its a very entertaining type of apparatus in which Antarpakad type of many small Mallakhambs are hanged freely to a giant wheel, that keeps on rotating on its axis.

g)    BOTTLE Mallakhamb: This is one of the unique demonstrative apparatus where risk factor is much more increased by raising a base stand on bottles. Thus performer has to execute elements with more perfectly & smoothly.

h)    HATYARI Mallakhamb or Mallakhamb with ARMS fixed on it.: This is the Mallakhamb where Perfection is the basic requirement. The weapons like Sword,Knieves or Choppers are eighter fixed over the Body or on Pole & performer has to perform on Pole without getting hurt.

i)    ADVA Mallakhamb or HORIZONTAL Mallakhamb: This is one of the most difficult type of Mallakhamb where the apparatus is fixed horizontal on two supports somewhat resembling like Horizontal Bar but performer has to perform different elements even like Dasarang & Tedhivel horizontally.

j)  ADVA TANGATA Mallakhamb or HORIZONTAL HANGING Mallakhamb.

k)   USACHA Mallakhamb or SUGAR CANE Mallakhamb :Here Mallakhamb elements are performed on a thick Sugarcane.  This sounds unacceptable but the fact is that this type of performance needs a Perfectly tight grip. Heavely tighted grip results in breakage of the cane. Sugarcane is hangged freely by its leaves at apex & performer performs over it only after wiping up the cane body by water .

l)    Mallakhamb on WHEELS.: For the demonstration purpose, a stand Mallakhamb is fixed on a trolly & Mallakhamb is performed on moving trolly specially in various processions.

m)  Mallakhamb  lifted by others: This is somewhat Acrobatic style of Mallakhamb where a small Mallakhamb oftn termed as 'Baby Mallakhamb' which is mainly used by the players to practise higher elements, this Mallakhamb is lifted by two lifters & a performer performs over it .
