Hot Yoga
Hot yoga is a series of poses that are preformed in a
heated room generally around 90 to 100 degrees. This practice promotes
the excretion of toxins from the body as well as increased flexibility
through warm muscles. Many of the poses preformed are the same as other
forms of the practice.
Hot yoga is commonly referred to as Bikram yoga which receives its
name from its innovator Bikram Choudhury. While most of the practice
is the same when comparing the two, Bikram yoga has a specific series
of poses, as well as a specific temperature, along with a specific layout
of the room. Other forms may share the basic principal of Bikram; however,
in order to use the name Bikram one must be certified by the Choudhury’s
college.
During hot yoga people tend to
sweat more than normal due to the temperature. Make sure to bring a
mat and towel for sanitary purposes. Also, because of the excessive
amounts of sweating, hydration is a crucial element necessary to receive
the benefits of this practice. Make sure to drink extra water before
and especially after a session.
