Yoga Fitness FAQs
It is so expensive to join a yoga studio, but
I would like to be involved in the practice, what can I do?
Joining a yoga studio or a private class can be expensive, but the benefits
are priceless. Most gyms offer yoga or Pilates classes and the cost
is often included in the price of your membership. However, if that
is still out of your price range, consider purchasing a yoga DVD. A
DVD is an inexpensive way to receive the benefits the practice offers
in the privacy of your home.
What type of clothing do you recommend I wear for a yoga class?
There is not a specific dress code to participate in a yoga class; however,
there are a few things to keep in mind. Natural fibers like cotton help
absorb sweat and it is also very breathable. Some find that wearing
shorts is helpful when working on mastering poses because they are able
to see the alignment of their knees and ankles. I recommend a simple
t-shirt and to the knee shorts ; however, your comfort level should
be the number one factor when purchasing clothing.
If you don’t use weights, how can yoga or Pilates be
much of a workout?
Yoga and Pilates focus on strengthening your core muscles. The purpose
of these exercises isn’t to build muscle bulk but rather to tone
and elongate them. Although you are not using weights during most or
any of a yoga or Pilates session, contracting and holding muscles is
a very difficult task, especially if you are not used to it. I suggest
giving it a try and seeing for yourself if you receive an adequate workout.
